GENDER INEQUALITY IN BELIZE
Women rights in Belize are fairly traditional, Belize has no strong political, economic, social, or religious representation by women. Although this is slowly starting to improve as several NGOs and international bodies are working to help improve women's rights in Belize. The life expectancy of women (70.25%) which is higher than the male life expectancy (67.01%). The literacy rate is also higher for women by 0.3% (literacy rate of men 76.7%, literacy rate of women 77%). Sadley the unemployment rate of women in Belize is also higher, Belize males have an unemployment rate of only 18% and Belize women have almost double the unemployment rate, 35.6%. Men in Belize make over double what women make in Belize, Men make 9,081 and Women make an average of only 4,136 yearly. Belize may be working on making life for women equal to the life of man, but sadly they still have a long way to go.
